Yoga Postures: the body is designed to move. The joints rotate to allow the bones to be move into different positions. Muscles move the joints and bones. The nervous system works with the natural chemistry of the body to control these movements. Each yoga pose has an effect on the internal organs, breathing and the central nervous system. The mind reacts and functions according to the changes influenced by the pose. Most of the inner systems of the body function without your intellectual input BUT you can be aware of the changes and experience the benefits. The movements and postures of yoga are called Asana.
“The natural chemistry of the body and mind is intoxicating. When you practice yoga you feel relaxed, energised and calm simultaneously. A forward bend is a tranquilliser, backward bends invigorate. Twists squeeze and relax. The right sequence of movements and postures can correct structural alignment and restore the natural health and wellbeing”

The Breath: your breathing is the link between your mind and the body. Learn to breath with awareness of how the breath can make it easy for you to stretch and relax. You can also practice special techniques of breathing to control your emotional and mental states of relaxation and concentration. These are the techniques of Pranayama.
Meditation: the mind is addicted to emotional thinking with imagination and desire. Most of us are perpetually repeating the same thoughts with the same emotion and desires. These thoughts and emotions can be compared to a fire. The more you think (add wood) the more the fire burns.
Awareness is not thinking. When you become still and silent you naturally begin to listen. Each sound is acknowledge with a single thought of awareness (bird, car, wind, trees etc). When you lean forward to smell a flower you instinctively close your eyes. This intensifies your sense of smell. Awareness is Meditation.
“Meditation is simply a technique that helps you to experience awareness without thinking. It will not help if you try to suppress the mind and all the thoughts. All you can do is remain quiet and still. No emotional involvement or strong attachment. Simply be aware. This is the fundamental principle of meditation”
